How We Rate Casinos

Every casino on Sister Guide is tested with real money and scored using the same consistent methodology. No exceptions, no shortcuts, no paid rankings.

Five Categories, One Score

Every casino is evaluated across five weighted categories. The weights reflect what matters most to UK players based on our research, testing experience, and direct reader feedback. The final score is a weighted average out of 5.0.

How We Test Every Casino

Our review process is hands-on and identical for every casino. There are no desk reviews, no rewrites of marketing material, and no scores based on reputation alone. Every casino on Sister Guide has been personally tested by a member of our team using the following process.

1

Account Registration

We create a real account at the casino, completing the full registration process including email verification. We note how long registration takes, what information is required, and whether the process is straightforward or frustrating.

2

Identity Verification (KYC)

We complete the Know Your Customer verification process, submitting genuine identification documents. We time how long verification takes and assess how clearly the casino communicates what is needed and when.

3

Real Money Deposit

We deposit our own money — typically between £20 and £50 — using a standard UK payment method. We record the minimum deposit required, the range of payment options available, and whether the deposit is processed instantly.

4

Gameplay Testing

We play across multiple game categories: slots, table games, and live dealer where available. We assess the breadth and quality of the game library, the loading speed, the mobile experience, and whether the games offered match what is advertised.

5

Bonus Evaluation

If we claim a welcome bonus, we read the full terms and conditions before opting in. We assess the wagering requirement, time limit, game restrictions, maximum bet limits, and maximum withdrawal cap. We calculate the realistic value of the bonus based on these terms.

6

Withdrawal Test

We request a withdrawal and time the entire process from submission to funds arriving in our account. We test at least two different payment methods per casino. We note whether the casino imposes a pending period, requests additional verification at withdrawal, or places any unexpected restrictions on cashing out.

7

Customer Support Test

We contact customer support with both a straightforward question and a more complex query. We test live chat response times, email turnaround, and whether agents can resolve issues directly or escalate everything. We assess knowledge, tone, and whether the support experience matches what the casino advertises.

8

Scoring and Review

We compile our findings and score the casino across all five categories. The review is written, fact-checked, and published. Every claim in the review is based on data we collected during testing — not on operator marketing material.

What Each Category Measures

Safety & Licensing 25%

This is the highest-weighted category because it underpins everything else. A casino with excellent bonuses and games is worthless if your money is not safe. We verify every casino's UKGC licence directly on the Gambling Commission's public register before testing begins. If the licence is not active, the casino does not appear on our site.

Beyond licence verification, we assess the operator's regulatory history. Has the UKGC imposed fines or formal warnings? Has the licence been suspended or placed under review? We also evaluate the casino's fund protection level — how securely your deposits are held in the event of operator insolvency — and whether the casino participates in GamStop.

We consider the corporate structure behind the casino. Operators that are publicly listed, financially transparent, and backed by established parent companies score higher than opaque private entities registered in offshore jurisdictions. Financial stability directly affects your risk as a player.

Active UKGC licence verified on the Gambling Commission register
Regulatory history — fines, warnings, licence reviews
Fund protection level (basic, medium, or high)
GamStop participation
Corporate transparency and financial stability
Responsible gambling tool availability and accessibility

Bonus Fairness 20%

We do not score bonuses by headline generosity. A £500 bonus with 50x wagering is worse for players than a £50 bonus with 0x wagering, and our scoring reflects that. Since January 2026, the UKGC has capped wagering requirements at 10x for new promotions, which has significantly levelled the playing field — but operators still vary widely in how they structure the surrounding terms.

We assess the full picture: wagering requirement, time limit, game restrictions and weighting, maximum bet during bonus play, maximum withdrawal cap on bonus winnings, and whether the terms are presented clearly and upfront. A casino that buries its bonus conditions in pages of small print is penalised regardless of how generous the headline figure looks.

We also evaluate ongoing promotions beyond the welcome offer. Reload bonuses, loyalty programmes, and VIP schemes contribute to the overall bonus fairness score because they indicate how the casino treats players after the initial sign-up.

Wagering requirement (lower is better, 0x is ideal)
Time limit to clear wagering
Game contribution percentages
Maximum bet and maximum withdrawal caps
Clarity and transparency of terms
Ongoing promotions and loyalty value

Game Selection 20%

A strong game library is not about having the most games. It is about offering quality titles from reputable providers across multiple categories, with fair RTPs and a range of stake levels to suit different budgets.

We assess the number and quality of software providers. Casinos that feature games from established names like Evolution, Pragmatic Play, NetEnt, Play'n GO, and Big Time Gaming score higher because these providers produce independently audited games with verified Random Number Generators and published RTP figures.

We evaluate category breadth: does the casino offer a healthy mix of slots, table games, live dealer options, and potentially poker or instant-win games? We check whether the advertised game count matches reality, whether the mobile experience matches the desktop library, and whether game filtering and search functionality make it easy to find what you are looking for.

Withdrawal Speed 20%

This is where our testing is most rigorous. We do not rely on the casino's advertised processing times. We make real withdrawals and time them from the moment we submit the request to the moment funds arrive in our account.

We test at least two different payment methods per casino — typically a card withdrawal and an e-wallet or bank transfer. We record the pending period (how long the casino takes to approve the withdrawal before sending it), the actual transfer time, and any friction introduced during the process such as additional verification requests or minimum withdrawal thresholds.

Casinos that process withdrawals within 24 hours for e-wallets and within 1 to 3 business days for card payments score well. Casinos that offer instant withdrawals for at least one payment method score highest. Any casino that consistently takes more than 5 business days without a legitimate verification reason is penalised significantly.

Actual withdrawal time (timed with real withdrawals)
Pending period before processing begins
Payment method range for withdrawals
Minimum and maximum withdrawal limits
Whether the casino offers instant or same-day payouts
Any friction, delays, or additional verification at withdrawal

Customer Support 15%

Customer support receives the lowest weight not because it does not matter, but because most players interact with support infrequently. When you do need it, however, quality matters enormously — particularly if you are dealing with a withdrawal issue, a bonus dispute, or an account problem.

We test every casino's support by making real contact. We send a straightforward question via live chat and a more complex query via email. We assess response time, agent knowledge, resolution quality, and whether the support team can make decisions or must escalate everything. A casino where live chat responds in under two minutes with a knowledgeable agent scores well. A casino where you wait ten minutes for a copy-pasted response does not.

We also evaluate support availability. 24/7 live chat is the standard we expect from top-tier casinos. Limited support hours, email-only contact, or the absence of live chat all reduce the score.

Live chat availability and response time
Email response time (target: under 24 hours)
Agent knowledge and problem-solving ability
Whether agents can resolve issues directly
Support hours and channel availability
Quality of self-help resources and FAQ

How Scores Are Calculated

Each category is scored individually on a scale of 1.0 to 5.0. The final overall score is the weighted average of all five categories, rounded to one decimal place.

Example Score Calculation

Safety & Licensing: 4.0 × 25% = 1.00

Bonus Fairness: 3.5 × 20% = 0.70

Game Selection: 4.5 × 20% = 0.90

Withdrawal Speed: 4.0 × 20% = 0.80

Customer Support: 3.0 × 15% = 0.45

Final Score: 3.85 / 5.0

Editorial Independence

Sister Guide earns revenue through affiliate partnerships. Our full business model is disclosed on our Affiliate Disclosure page. The critical point for this page is simple: commission rates have no influence on casino scores.

The team members who test casinos and write reviews do not know the commercial terms attached to individual operators. Scores are determined entirely by the methodology described above. We have given low scores to high-paying partners and strong scores to casinos with no affiliate relationship. The editorial process and the commercial relationships are structurally separated.

If we discover that a casino's performance has deteriorated since our last review — slower withdrawals, worse support, changed bonus terms — we update the score. No casino receives permanent protection from re-assessment, regardless of any commercial arrangement.

How Often Reviews Are Updated

Bonus terms and promotional offers are checked weekly. If a welcome bonus changes, we update the listing within seven days. Full casino reviews are refreshed on a rolling basis, with every casino re-tested at least once every six months. If a casino undergoes a significant change — new ownership, licence action, platform migration, or a major policy shift — we prioritise an immediate re-review.

If you notice something on our site that appears outdated or inaccurate, please let us know at hello@sister-guide.co.uk. We take accuracy seriously and will investigate promptly.
